Wiggle in ignition wires
« on: October 18, 2012, 11:19:08 AM »
Hello all,

I've recently installed my new Dyna brown coil and some proper ngk spark plugs.  Made a world of difference in cold starting (although now the carbs need to be tended to again).

However, my ignition wires (which I installed this summer) do not fully pop into place in the coil.  They aren't in danger of falling out, but the have some in and out play at the coil.  When I had the bosch coil I managed to pop the coil end of the wire in firmly using a pair of sheep-nosed pliers so that the wire didn't move at all.  No such luck with the Dyna.

Any suggestions?  Is some play acceptable in the wire?

Thanks,
-Luca

You may want to 'adjust' the size of the ignition wire that inserts into the coil .

You can usually take pair of needle nose pliers and open up or decrease the size of the formed metal end to get a good snug fit in the coil .

Thanks Bob,

I did flare out the copper end a bit to snug things... but maybe I need to pinch it a little instead to get it "over the hump"

And maybe use some more slick dielectric grease
