I rebuilt Beryl's Carbys today.

Lloyd showed me what to do on one carby, I did the other myself.  I also took the opportunity to replace the needle and needle yet.

The atomisers in each carburetor was so blocked with crap that it wouldn't have been working at all.  My mate Lloyd said that it was a wonder the bike ran at all.

So, short of magic, how would the bike have been able to run at highway speeds with the atomisers as blocked as they were?

I took the bike for a short ride this evening.  The bike is much more responsive than it was before and it purrs like a kitten.

Blocked atomisers usually just restrict/block the pre-mix air to the needle jet and not the fuel. In fact it would be near impossible for crude to block the fuel as you have a needle moving up and down in the jet the whole time so it's self cleaning. Without the pre-mix air you end up with a rich mixture. If your needles/jets were worn it would have run richer still. Makes quite a difference so as well as improved running expect a big improvement in MPG. My average jumped 7 MPG just by cleaning the atomisers.

thanks for the Reply Barry.  It will be interesting to see how the fuel milage improves.  Before I did this, I was getting about the same milage as my Ducati Multistrada 1200s !!
