Air Box replacement kits

Gidday

I am considering installing an air box replacement kit on my R65 Cafe racer. Love the look of the stripped back motor without the airbox and the filtered velocity stacks on the bings. As I understand it I willl just need to get the carbys rejetted and possibly retuned.

Ordering them from caferacer.com (has some very nice pics)
I have heard conflicting reports on the risks/benefits of these stacks.

Most people I have spoken to believe there is no real performance improvements which is fine as I am going more for a look and sound benefit. The bike runs fine so I am a little anxious about doing anything to it that would stuff it up. No I do not intend to ride it on dirt.

Anyone have any experience int his type of modification?

Yes,

I have done it on mine.  I have a little hesitation at aprox 70mph when cruising and then opening up the throttle to accelerate.  But this was present before I put the pod filters on, as I also have different exhaust and, probably more to the point, carbs that have 100,000 miles on them.

You are right in say that there is probably little to be gained performance wise and not that much to be lost.  To get the best you will need to carefully adjust the carbs.  I would also suggest that a rolling road tune up would be in order to do it more efficiently/quickly.

I would just go ahead and fit them and see what you think, some bikes/setup do not need any tweaking at all.

I like the look and have not noticed any performance drop off.  But the bike makes a lovely noise....

those there are down right sexy! and i am not one to mess with a stock air box because i believe in them for day to day use, but if i could find something like that i would really have to change my mind.

I love that top engine cover - even the black one.

It is not clear to me if the black and the aluminium one are one and the same thing, and I doubt very much that you could bue the aluminium one for 65 Euro's!

There are no holes for the securing bolts on the aluminium one, as there is on the black one.  And for all I know, the black one could be made of plastic.  No problem as long as it does not melt!  And I am sure it could be painted aluminium....

The velocity stacks are nice, though!   Hmmm
