Airhead key blanks
« on: September 22, 2012, 01:50:41 PM »
The October 2012 issue of Airmail, the monthly Airheads Beemer Club magazine, has an ad for MotoKeys. http://motokeys.com/

They offer "...keys to fit Airheads: OEM BMW folders, Neiman/GKS, brass or steel."

The Motokeys website also provides a technical drawing of each key so you can put your vernier caliper to work and confirm the correct size prior to ordering. That's a really nice feature, IMO.

Motokeys also has key blanks for later model BMW motorcycles and offers to cut Airhead keys by code.

I need to order a couple to cut as spares for two of my Airheads. It's kinda scary having only one key.

Monte, I've gotten keys made for my airheads and guzzi, by a local locksmith not Home Depot, or Lowes, they had both key blanks in stock .
'81 R65
'82 R65 LS
'84 R65 LS
'87 Moto Guzzi V65 Lario
'02 R1150R
Riding all year long since 1993 .
I'll give up my R65, when they pry my cold dead hands from the handlebars !!!!!

I'm sure that would work with an OEM key but my new R100S has a hand-whittled key that is something only its mother could love. Plus, I want another "folder" for the '83 R65.

Guess I could buy the Motokeys blank for the R100S and take it to a locksmith along with the "chop job" key. Might work.

I got some folding blanks from Justin.  Stainless steel.  Yeah.  Not every locksmith can cut steel keys.  Call first.

Not bad.  I may get another folder.

He has quite an assortment of keys.  I wonder if the guy can get keys for krauser and/or denfeld bags?  I hear a lot of guys are looking for those keys.

His web site states they can source other key blanks. Give him a call and report back. Inquiring minds and all that...
