Speedometers

Can you take a speedometer from a 1980 BMW r65 and would it work on a 1981 BMW r65?

There's a small green number at the bottom of the face of the indicator, something like : W=1312 .

If those numbers match you can use it, if not, the speedometer and odometer indications will be inaccurate .
