Rear Brake Help

I'm hoping you guys can help me out. I'm trying to remove the brake shoes and the clymers manual says to remove the clamp and you should be able to brake shoes out from the middle but mine doesn't have a clamp. Can you tell me how to remove my brake shoes? Do I have to remove the spings? My finger is pointing where the clamp should be.

Grab the brake shoes, one in each hand, and simply fold them inwards, toward the axle position. That's it. Refit is the opposite.

You're pointing at the brake shoe pivot. Never heard it referred to as a clamp because it don't. Brake cam shaft is directly opposite.

Mine have no clamp either.  It as simple as Monte said just that the springs are are strong as hell. I never came across springs on car brakes that were that strong.

The usual German engineering approach then.

You know, I don't even look in the manual any more for instructions how to take something apart. A lot of things are puzzles and the book just says - remove it. Ok, what's the trick? No clue... just 'remove it'.

Yea I've been finding that a lot which is frustrating

It as simple as Monte said just that the springs are are strong as hell.

I did my rear shoes a couple years ago and this is how it went:
  then which turned into [smiley=furious3.gif] and then of course [smiley=smash.gif] and eventually ... 8-)

I suggest you wear clothes you don't mind getting a "little" brake dust on. And perhaps some gloves. And a full decontamination suit.

I've pinched my fingers once or twice with the rear brake shoes on airheads - just be careful and make sure there are no small children or grandmothers around before you begin.  You may want to have a friend around, or have a strong stick handy in case you "bear-trap" a finger either getting them off or putting them back on again.

Its really not that bad...take your time and just think your way thru it...it all makes sense if you don't rush it.
