Brake Noise

The rear brake on my '79 R65 is making weird noises when the brake is applied.  I haven't inspected the brake shoes but when I had it apart last year I knew the shoes did not have much mileage left on them.  I've put about 3000 kms on the bike since I had the wheel off.  So today I ordered new shoes from Motobins.  What is concerning me is whether the wheel drum (in the snowflake wheel) is scored.  I won't have time to inspect it for a few weeks but I was just wondering...If required, is there any way to rebuild the wheel drum in the wheel?

Could be chatter or metal-on-metal or... ? Does sound like it's time for new shoes.

Depending on the condition of the cast-in-place brake drum, it may be ok for use after a good cleaning and refitting new shoes.

Turning the brake drum is problematic for several reasons; finding a shop that can secure the entire rim to the lathe equipment, and if too much metal is cut away, the arc of the new brakes shoes will no longer fully contact the drum.

Encourage you to park the bike until such time as you can do a through inspection.
