What's moly grease and for what do I need it on my '86 R65?

Used mostly to lube the splines on your final drive & transmission splines for smooth shifting in latter case - when downshifting is tough that's a sign your splines are dry.

Ron,

You're liable to get many answers here.  I'm assuming you're referring to the Moly Paste or what is commonly referred to as HondaMoly60.  This is a high impact, high temp sticky grease used primarily for your output splines and wheel splines. It can be used in other applications but is recommended primarily for our splines. Keeping our splines well lubricated is a critical maintenance item and will prevent wear which can become very costly to repair. Some will like to incorporate mixtures of different greases with the HondaMoly60 but personally I use HondaMoly60 out of the tube on transmission output splines and final drive (wheel) splines. It's redily available at shops that service airheads and Honda dealers along with many others.

At the Honda dealer, you'll most often find it on a pegboard wall rack, or similar. Small tube in a bubble package.

We have a large Honda dealership in town and when I asked for a tube of Honda Moly60, I got this stunned, WTF you talkin' about look from the sales "help". Seek it on your own and teach the hired help a lesson in inventory knowledge. Pitiful.

Guess I'd better start looking for this stuff since spline lubes are in my near future.

Good idea, Ron.

Like we really need an excuse to go prowling about motorcycle shops. ;)
