Clam shell airbox

Just curious about the holes drilled in the rear of the early model air filter covers. Mine has them and I wondered if they were standard.

Do all 78 - 80 R45/65's have the holes ?

I know that there were no holes in the rear of the filter cover on early airheads in general and that they were introduced at some point for the R90s model but not on other models of the same year.

Question is did they then at some point appear on all other subsequent airheads including the R45/65's when this model range was introduced.

I don't think holes in the air box was ever standard.

Don

I take it your 1980 R65 doesn't have the holes and I guess your R90/6 doesn't either.

I'm retrofitting an 1979 R45 clam shell on to my '84 R65 (waiting in vain for a starter motor cover to come up cheaply on eBay!).  My clamshell does indeed have the holes.

Thanks guys.

I think we can conlude they were standard at least for the R45/R65 1979 models.
