Summer project...Cafe Racer! NEW QUESTION!
« on: June 22, 2007, 01:15:23 AM »
After days of wandering in the dark, i have seen the light. i'm getting a job and working on my motorcycle this summer. by the time i get my licence (probably next summer) my R65 will be a new beast. I have decided to go for the cafe racer look although i dont know how practical it could be riding cross country with no space for luggage (clothes, tent, sleeping bags, girlfriend :D, etc) anyway i have 3 questions
1. has anyone used the telefix profi clipons, pros/cons or are there any clip on suggestions
2. what are the things that some people have on their carbs instead of having the whole air filter thing it looks like a tube coming off the intake Solved
3.*new queston* will a R100R tank fit (like this: http://www.bmbikes.co.uk/photos/schemephotos/685%20Amethyst%20Metallic%201992.jpg /can i make it fit? pros/cons could it hit my knees if i'm going for the racer style?

thanx

There are plenty of recent threads about cafe Racers both hear and on Boxerworks.  You are not the first and you definately wont be the last.  This is my bike when I first put it back on the road.

There is a little bit of blurb about what I did initially.  However since then other things have changed:

I am now sporting a set of wire wheels.

I have lost the airbox...a visual go faster mod, not an actual go faster mod.

Short BSA style silencers

Cut down rear fender - manx norton style.

I will get you you a link for a more recent picture of my bike - probably from Indian's site.  A wealth of ideas.

Good luck

Steve

in my best evil laugh boohawhawhaw! welcome to the dark side!

i used vortex clip ons on mine and they worked nice for me. i could only get them from ebay? dont know why that was

seats? lots of places to find a seat.
glass from the past they are at http://caferacingparts.com/
or there are different routes to go with for a saddle that you can sit and ride for longer distances.

get a book with a good wiring diagram so when you start stripping down your wiring harness you can match up colors.

and if you have any questions dont be afraid to ask.

Not to be out done by Jon,

Here is another site that I found useful

But then I am in the UK.  If you are in the US of A then the exchange rate might take some swallowing.....

Lovely kit though, I have some tarozzi clip-ons and a fork brace plus I used the headlight mounting brackets from here to mount the standard headlight.

But unfortunately I could only stretch to RAASK rear sets - which are okay, but not a slick as some.

look at this place if you are going to lose your instruments and want something tidy....

You've got me started......

that was a velocity stack i would guess. the thing with making air box mods is there is alot to it and to make it run right you would be making adjustments to the carbs all the time. i have the alum. type that kind of flows with the engine and that is why i left it, now if i had one of those plastic types i might try something different because i think they are ugly!

rims! i am guessing you have mags on there, those have to go. i am working on getting a set of spokers for mine.

not to say you need to leave here but look at some of the other forums out there, there are some that do cafe stuff.

http://www.tonup.com is one and there are a bunch of others

remember one thing it is yours and do what you want! dont let someone put your ideas in a box.

You talking something like these?
They look cool, but reportedly hurt rather than help performance.

like i said i do not like or recommend those unless you are using them for a race only type set up. there is way to much work on keeping you fuel/air mix from going lean.
