I have an 82 R65 and found a listing for an 87 R65.  Any idea if these will work?

You may be able to use the bags, but those mounts are for the monolever frame bikes (R65/R80/R100) that started with the 1986 model year.  They won't work on your 81-84 twinshock R65 frame.    You need to find R65/R45 specific mounts for the twinshock frame, vintage 1979 - 1984.   Actually, now that I think about it, those bags may not work with the twinshock mounting frames either - I can't tell from the pics, but they look like the bags I had on my 88 R100RT, and I think that the have a locking clasp on the front edge that is supposed to grip the frame mounts on the monolever bikes?

Had a feeling.  The search continues.  Thanks for your reply.

That's not a bad price, though.

Best price on a complete set I'd seen for a while.  Won't work for me, but maybe someone here with a newer model.

Monte made a post about teardrop shaped soft bags that go under seat & look classy & are cheap from JC Whitney - my problem with BMW panniers for airheads is most are old & hardware is not so great.

I like the soft bags.

Yep, I do like the Dowco soft bags. I can switch them between either R65 in just a couple minutes and I'm good to go. You can buy similar bags for more bucks -these also have the rain booties in a side pocket- but I have had zero issues with the lower priced units. I later bought the matching tank bag.

Point: The wide, adjustable, HD velcro straps (2) go over the seat and support the bag's weight. Straps attached to the rear frame diagonal members and a third strap runs around the end of the rear frame to keep everything stable.

As do most all soft bags, they will sag inward a little bit when heavily loaded but not near enough to interfere with suspension or tire.
