BING CHOKE SPRINGS
« on: October 11, 2011, 11:40:13 AM »
The tiny springs that retain the chokes on our bikes should be checked.  BOTH springs on my bike gave up the ghost, snapped - beach living rusted them - making the bike just about un-rideable.  Bad to have happen in civilization, would be a real problem out in the country.

I was just looking at my springs last night and wondering.. what were the symptoms?  Over rich running?
'04 R1150 RT ~41000 miles
'86 R65 / '84 motor ~72000 miles. SS lines, Spiegler rotor, Progressive monoshock, Keihan silencers, a piece of Pichler fairing.

I discovered broken springs when engine began surging, sputtering, stumbling. Choke butterflies bouncing about wreaked havoc with carb balance, throttle stuck open, etc.  Such a little spring=so much trouble when it fails.  Mine lasted since 1983 so I would imagine replacements will last at least twenty years...

Thank you for the heads up, DgM. I'll keep an eye out. Now if I could remember all these breakdown potential reasons while on the side of some road when and if that ever happens, it would be good!
Probably just end up callingl roadside assistance from CAA (AAA).
1983 R65LS - LRB still my favourite!? 1988 Honda NX250, "Toodles Too" and a Suzuki DR650, "Calypso." All stored in the "Brrrmmm Closet".
