Thanks to the advice here, it is back up and running. Â It starts like a charm.
The 1/4 drive breaker bar worked great - don't know how else I would have done it. Â Due to the age of the original, I decided to replace the factory Bosch with a new Valeo. Â Not only was the case by the solenoid broken, but when I pulled the old starter out a bunch of copper shavings poured out. Â Rather than tear into it, see what I needed, locate the parts (assuming they are available -- I could not even find that case part that broke), order and get them, and rebuild the starter, what little is left of the riding season in NJ would be gone. Â The replacement was a breeze, and the Valeo does not even have or need that bracket at the rear of the Bosch. Â
