not firing on the right side
« on: June 04, 2007, 05:42:27 PM »
ok i am still having problems with it not firing on the right side. i have spark, switched plugs, wires, coils and it still wont fire on the right. checked compression, both at 150 psi. the valve lash timing is on. the carbs where just cleaned and redone a week or two ago.

my guess is that i am not getting fuel on right side??? what can i do to check that carb? or what am i not seeing or looking at on that carb?

lucky for me i have enough hair to pull out. this is the first time i have played with these bing cv type carbs.

Possible kinked fuel line in the airbox area, drop the float bowl and see if you are getting fuel to the carb.

i am kind of thinking out loud here, talking through the problem. i pulled the bowls, i have fuel in the bowls, i turned on the fuel and let the float hang to see if i am getting fuel to the bowl. ok got that.

now i think it is firing one the choke circuit and using what fuel it has to do so then it can catch up and dies out so that leads me to the idle jet. pulled that. i know it is a small jet but i could see any light through it. so it is going back into the chem dip and soak.

it has to be the idle jet???

the idle jet is now clean and i can see light through it now. the carbs are back together and everything is back on with a full charge battery. i pulled the plug wire on the left side and hit the starter button. it wants to start and run on the right! the left spark wire goes back on and now to sinc the carbs.

i could have saved a bunch of trouble if i would have looked through the idle jets. i looked at everything but those. so i am off to since them up now.

I had to "rod" these out with a couple strands of copper wire on the project LS.  Tthey were totally clogged and dipping/soaking didn't even begin to touch the crud...

i did take a small sewing pin and try to get some of the crud out before letting it soak. i then pulled it out after about three hours and dug around again with the needle. i put it back in overnight. now to get it running as it should.

It's very touchy using something made out of steel as it can deform the holes.  I strip a couple of inches of stranded copper hookup wire and snip off a couple of strands - much kinder to the brass...
