Looking ahead to getting my '83R65LS...Anyone know the correct paint code for that year Silver color? I've been un-officially told it is 060.Is this correct?
Asking as I have to paint it, and want it the original silver color.  ;D

The tricky part is to find someone who carries/uses the Glasurit paint - which is still available, but is expensive and - from what I hear- a bit of a pain in the arse to work with compared to some modern paints.   Some shops can do a very nice job of colormatching , but if you are planning to enter your wheels into a concours competition, it will have to be Glasurit.

The Glasurit silver paint code may involve a base coat of white, or gold, beneath the color coat, I'm not sure.

The silver R65LS was, I believe "Polaris" (imola-silber) according to BMW paint code info.  This meant :
Paint Code
060     polaris/imola-silber   for the tank, cowling, fairing color coat
098     clear acquer, high gloss
120     schwarz, matt      one of these is the battery cover paint color (matt black)
121     ET-schwarz, matt   I think this is the engine/trim paint code ?

My book doesn't show the frame paint code (?) but it seems that a semi-gloss black of some sort would work unless you had to be 100% factory.

I *believe* that all the silver LS bikes were delivered with silver painted wheels (not white, like many of the red LS bikes) but I don't have the BMW paint spec for that.

Did the silver LS' have the band of black along the bottom of the tank?

Here are some nice pictures, but as noted in the description, the blue pin stripe is not factory.

Thanks guys 4 the reply on the paint.NO..not concourse!!
Just want it to be a real close to the original color.
I am very familiar with the Spies Hecker paints(Now Dupont)I think.
I am pretty sure my other LS had the black band around the bottom of the tank.
I do a little messin around with paint so I will try out those colors and see what happens.

Yes, black on bottom of the fuel tank (painted over the silver (or red) was part of the paint scheme to make the bike appear longer and lower.  The black along the bottom fuel tanks should follow a line which matches up with the black painted battery covers and follows along the black painted subframe side rails, just below the silver (or red) painted rear cowling piece.

I found the POR-15 black chassis paint to be perfect as it's a mid-gloss that matched more or less. Looks like powdercoating and lasts. My white wheels were powdercoated white and have held up well.
There's a thread sticky here I think about getting the LS's owners manual as it is chock-a-block full of impt. info. It WILL get greasy fingerprints from use!!!
1983 R65LS - LRB still my favourite!? 1988 Honda NX250, "Toodles Too" and a Suzuki DR650, "Calypso." All stored in the "Brrrmmm Closet".

Hi, the BMW paint codes for my 79  USA spec "Champagne" or "Silver Biege" as it was known in the EU are as follows.
BMW code 548 Silver Biege
BMW code 111 Olive pin stripe.
Most good paint shops should be able to match them with modern paint codes not just Glasurit.I know they can be matched on the RAL system.
