Terminal Corrosion
« on: March 17, 2011, 12:34:06 PM »
Dont Panic its not that bad !!
Before i strip this terminal on the generator and clean it am i in danger of breaking the post if i do??.
Following Montes previous comment re pulling the bean can to do the points i can say its a breeze, much easier than doing it in situ which is what i did last time.
Can anyone clarify what the white plastic tube is for ?? i dont see the point unless your running under water.

Often wondered the same thing Lou.

To try and figure out what it's for my 1st question would be do the Hall effect bean cans have it or is it just fitted to the points bikes.

Doubt it's a snorkel for running submerged.

Ok I just checked and it was fitted to 09/80 so points only.

I reckon it could be a vent to prevent the build up of ozone in the bean can.

So daft tongue in cheek suggestion - it's a vent to prevent the build up of ozone in the bean can.
Wondered if its in case the oil seal goes to prevent oil getting to the generator, however the "ozone" theory is just pausable knowing the Germans....... [smiley=cowsleep.gif]
