Leaky Fuel Tap
« on: March 05, 2011, 08:49:20 AM »
Took the '81 R65 to work this morning, when I turned the fuel tap on, I got fuel on my fingers .

It only seeps when the tap is in the 'ON' position, in the reserve position, it doesn't leak .

Looks like I need to replace the two seals inside .

The plastic cover that has the positions embossed on it, is no longer available for the Germa fuel tap, I'm sure with it being 31 years old, it's not going to come off in one piece .

Does anyone know if the cover for the Karcoma fuel tap will work on a Germa fuel tap ?

The Karcoma cover is still available .

Looks like I'll be placing an order with Hucky's BMW Parts on Monday morning .

Hans will be able to tell you, I'm sure. I'm also sure I don't have your answer. :-/

Ethanol may be a cause, but the bike was built in 09/80 and has spent the last 18 years in Phoenix, I'm sure age and heat have hardened the rubber parts .
