Exhaust replacement standard or 2 into 1 ??
« on: December 26, 2010, 08:28:29 AM »
Hello and a Merry Christmas   . This is my 1st post on the forum though I have been stalking it for a while. I have an 84 R65 in the process of restoration and I'm looking at replacing the exhaust. With either a standard set up (stainless) set up though I am toying with the idea of a 2 into 1 system.

The 1st couple of photo's taken from the Gibson Exhausts web site who are based just round the corner from me. One extra question can anyone identify the rear shocks in the photo?

Armours Motor Products Ltd also are not badly priced for an SS 2 into system. But no photo's.

Any views or idea's would be a help.

Many Thanks
Ian

I would go with a stainless system over an OEM system .

If the 2 into 1 exhaust system requires removing the center stand, you may want to get a Brown side stand, as these bikes do not like to be left on the OEM side stands for any length of time, due to the extreme lean angle while on the side stand .

I'll give up my R65, when they pry my cold dead hands from the handlebars !!!!!

If you look in ride reports "Gertie the snow Queen" theres a good image of the Brituro exhaust. As far as i can tell the only difference between them and OEM is they are slightly more flared out on the mounting rather than being parallel to the frame, i gives a more sporty look IMHO they also come with the 35/38 insert so they will fit whatever the year.

Lou they look very nice. Like you, the sound for me is very important. In London people need to know your coming  ;D

I'm going to email Brituro and Armous Ltd in the New Year and see what they can do for me.

Found a place in Italy that do some good shock'shttp://www.motocicliveloci.it/inglese/catalogue/ammortizzatori_uk.htm

G.A.Z.I.-01 and G.A.Z.I.-03 catching my eye.

If I get a chance tomorrow I'll give Gibson exhausts a ring and see what they can come up with. I'm wondering if the exhausts may be better with a front or rear balance pipe? They may also have an idea on the make of  shocks.

With luck they will have some rasp... ;)

The bike in the pics, has the motor mounts shifted.

That means the header pipes on that bike, won't fit a stock one.
