Rear Sets

Im looking to get some rear sets for my 81' r65 and Im wondering what some of you may have experiences with and how and if they were direct bolt on? any advice will be appreciated.

Popular vendor. Although R65s are not listed, the 78-84 R80 is and these rear sets may bolt up to the R65. A phone call may confirm.

I tried several different "BMW" sets before I found a set of these. The main issue is the rear brake side. Because of the way the brake lever goes through a pocket in the frame the other styles don't fit correctly. Anything can be made to fit and work but if you want bolt on rear sets that don't require any modification to either the frame or the brake lever these are the bee's knees.

Omar's may not have them in stock but they can be ordered. Or keep an eye on the MOA classifieds. That's where I found mine.

is it because the brake lever hits the muffler? or does it not fit properly?

Its because the pivot point for the brake lever is inside the frame. In order for the rod to activate the brakes to be properly aligned and have the necessary leverage it needs to run almost parallel to the swing arm. The others don't fit the opening in the frame and if you do get one that fits, getting the brake actuating rod aligned is impossible.

I didn't think they were that ugly. Black satin powder coating and a little selective polishing of the corners and they bland in nicely. Beside the fact that they fit and are easy to put on or take off without a lot of fuss.

Nice set up DGM, its funny, I have made my own for Hondas and Triumphs for years, Im going to take a hard close look at what Im working with before I bite the bullet for sure.

Rear sets almost always have the wrong pedal ratio for the rear brake, and horrible rod geometry. I cut the original pedal down and welded on a tag to make it an idler when
I made these. I did some math, but I forgot it. I think it might have been a 4:1 pedal and 1.6:1 in the idler which gave something like the stock pedal ratio.

Link rods are just 6mm stainless tapped M6 X 1.0mm with Heim joints screwed on the end. The joits were about £3 ($5) a piece, and I don't see why you couldn't use 1/4" rod and 1/4" Heims...

Look at a Honda CBR 600 I think they're laid out the same way and would work with very little hassle. Not bolt right on, but quite often bolt on stuff doesn't bolt right on...

Plus, with the CBR stuff you get folding pegs.

I'm pretty sure that the Rassk website says that all their rearsets now have the metal pegs and cast levers. The photo with the rubber covered pegs is of their earlier design.
