I picked up my 80 r 65 today and i have a strange turn signal problem.
when i'm stopped the signals work normally,when I'm moving and turn on the signal all four turn signals flash.WTF?

First thing I would check and this is just a guess at best, is to remove the fuel tank and check the main gound point for the electrical system at the forward coil mount for cracks .

It is a well known problem area on the '79-'80 year bikes and it causes odd electrical problems when it is cracked .

do you have the hazard flashers fitted?

If so check the diode in a little round black casing and/or the wiring to the switch on the dashboard

checked the ground it was ok.I'm stumped as are most of the mechanics I've asked.why would it work ok when stoppedand then go to flashing as I ride off? it's not RPM/voltage related.it doesn't change when I rev the engine.

You have just given me a clue. Does your early bike like mine have the audible warning that the indicators are on ?  If so I suspect that your problem is somehow related to this device. There is an extra relay in the flasher circuit that turns off the bleeper unless you are on the move. Check out a 78 - 80 wiring diagram they are different to the later bikes. I can post one if you wish.

aha,or whatever you say over there. the audible turn signal warning is jumpered to eliminate it and that might be the problem.

I've just noticed that it has something to do with the neutral lighting.when I put it in gear all 4 flash.neutral,works normally.

Whenever I wanted to defeat the audible alarm on my '79, I would just unplug it, no "jumping" necessary.  If there is a jumper wire, that might be the problem.

It is possible that the previous owner rigged 4-way flasher lights.  It can be easily done, but if you didn't know about it and something went wrong, it could cause you these problems.
I will find the instructions for those flashers and get back to you.

it was the jumper in the turn signal beeper circuit. I just can't figure out why it made all four blink?

If anyone has a wiring diagram with the turn signal buzzer and canceling circuit, I'd like to have a copy for future reference .

Just never know when you may run across a bike with it installed .

I think there was a feature that the turn directionals cancelled after a certain time after the neutral light went out .
