help with the choke

ive been replacing parts as i go along during the summer . i replaced the throttle cables and then i changed the choke cables
at the same time i changed the points to a new boyer .
during the summer i havent used the choke as it was so warm , but this week its a lot cooler and i tryed using the choke and i dont seem to be working .
surely by changing the cables it wouldnt just stop them working , would it . or could it be something to do with the boyer.

i tryed them with full choke and then no choke and it only just started up

carbs have been cleaned etc

What year bike do you have, the '79-'80 year bikes have a different choke cable system than the '81 and later bikes .

Did you by chance remove the choke housings from the carbs for cleaning ?

The Boyer should have no impact on the choke.

i think they are 85 carbs on a 79 bike.
to be honest i cant remember if i pulled to choke apart or not .

i think i did , if so what then

About the only thing you can do wrong, is to put them on the wrong carb, if you had them apart at the same time .

There should be a punch mark on the choke shaft it is off set and goes to the cable side of the lever if this is the wrong way round the choke wont work.Its worth stripping and cleaning as the holes are very fine and easilly blocked.

i tryed starting the bike again today and stupid me i changed the idle jet to a bigger size , why i dont know , blonde moment.
i am going to change the needle jet as mid range feels slug ish .
and at the same time check choke parts

On a 79-80 the choke cables look like normal control cables but they are not, the inner cable is not braided stuff but stiff wire, like heavy baling wire. They can stick in the outer casing and so leave the choke on, you get terrible misfires once the engine warms up and you may not notice the slack in the control due to the stiff wire. I know...I know, bitter experience, what a load of trouble for a silly reason, should have seen it, etc. etc.....
