The method of adjustment described in the 79- 80 riders handbook is different to the later bikes but it was quite complicated and both methods are trying to achieve same objective which is 2 mm free play at the handle bar lever and with the handle bar lever at half travel the clutch operating arm should be parallel to the gearbox end cover for max. mechanical advantage.
