R65 1981 New seat
« on: September 03, 2010, 02:35:58 AM »
My old seat and the tool box looked bad.
I have bought a seat for /7 which should fit my R65.

http://www.bmwbayer.de/index.php?page=product&info=691

And it nearly fits. But it is a space between the rubber support under the seat pan and rear frame. The new seat does not lay on the frame.
Maybe the rear frame is bend?

Anybody with similar problem? I can use bits of a rubber hose on the rear frame. Any better idea?

The /7 has a longer sub-frame than the R65.

If you want to use this seat, you will have to make some custom modifications.

Rubber bumpers are available from BMW.  They come in two different heights, as far as I know. 10 and 16mm. (Parts #8 & 7 in the diagram) http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=0358&mospid=51896&btnr=52_0984&hg=52&fg=05

Or, you can try and return that seat, and get a R65 seat.
S. Meyer has a perfect reproduction.  I love mine!

I will try some make the seat fit. Maybe taller rubber bumpers is the answer. The hinges fits nearly perfect.
I like this seat, it make my R65 look perfect with its original slim tank and bar end mirrors.

The rear bumpers on the R65 seat are adjustable for length.  Loosen the lock nut, screw them in or out to the correct height when the seat is closed, and then re-tighten the lock nuts.  Very simple.

We didn't have anything like that on the 1st gen. seats.
