Give her a treat.
« on: August 21, 2010, 05:14:53 PM »
Well I started out with setting valve clearences then I checked for air leaks at the carbies, then I took her out for a warm up ride (about 50k's) , once back in the shed I put her up on the centre stand.
Next step was to take off the vacuum port screws under the bings and attatch the vacuum guage.
Now before all this she had been reving out too 300rpm once hot during a run! (new advance springs, new intake hoses and cables good ect) but I could not fix the problem.
Now I restart hot motor and run at idle around 1200rpm, within seconds up she goes too 3000rpm! so I recheck timing marks, all good.
Now I turn the mixture scews in all the way then back them out one turn, then I back the idle scews out till they just  meet the stops, then watching the guages turn them in so they read the same at 1200rpm and again at 4000rpm.

Cont.
now she runs nice, only a small hang up as the revs drop.
Now I take her for a ride 50k's or so, I see she now jumps up too 2000 rpm now, so I get screw driver and back Idle screws out just till she sitts on 1200rpm again.
Presto! she is now smooth as silk :), no stiking or rising RPM, she has never run this well!.
It is a long process but well worth the end result.
So if your having this sort of drama give this method a go mate ;).
BTW "she" is a R65LS.

Getting the carbs adjusted correctly, is one of the few jobs that I haven't gotten good at yet .

The carbs can be 'fiddly' to get them correctly adjusted, but when you get it right, you can tell by the sound of the engine .

She was born in Dec 1983 crossrodes, that makes her 26 years old (not counting 1983 as it was almost 1984)
