 could not do anything with the paint code I gave them [1982 BMW R65LS Polaris imola silver code 060] saying their database really did not reference motorcycles very well. I went to the source: http://www.glasurit.com/  and used their paint formula finder. Great! now I have this, um, formula but no Idea if it will help my paint guy out. Anyone have a background in mixing paint and do the formulas make sense for a non Glasurit mix? Rich I don't know if this will work or not, but did you check the BMW cages of that same year for the Polaris Imola Silver paint code ?

I found this doing a paint search, don't know if it will help or not .

It shows Polaris Metallic 1982-83 R65LS code 563 .

This may help they show the paint codes in ral i think? it is an American site so it should be worth a look.

Rich, the formula is probably specific to that manufacturer.  If you have a DuPont jobber nearby they should be able to cross the BMW number in the Spies-Hecker brand (DuPont's "European" line), at least they can the newer BMWs I've researched.

Operative word here is "newer".

My excellent DuPont jobber's computer cross-pollinating and matching program did not go back anywhere close to my 1983 R65. However, they were helpful in finding a Japanese car maker whose color matched my BMW 501 to the USMilSpec-TLAR standard.

The DuPont books won't but the Spies-Hecker database is what needs to be looked in.

Thanks guys. The research continues. I did find a BASF web site that linked me to a supplier in the area. I'll give that a go this weekend and continue to educate myself in the dark art [sometimes metal-flake] of paint mixing with the information you provided.
