Interesting.   I thought I pretty much kept up with this stuff.   I was not familiar with this "controversy".

I've been a Rotella T 10/40 devotee forever.  I'm a little put off by their reluctance to come right out and address this issue.   My last change was Valvoline 4 stroke Motorcycle 20/50.    I'll probably stay with Valvoline VR1 "racing" oil in the future.  Seems to be a good compromise on zinc/phos content and cost.

Spectro Golden 20W50 synth blend.  But it is getting really hard to find and really expensive.  I will probably go to the Valvoline VR1 20W50 laced with Lucas oil Stabilizer and change it more often when the time comes.

This thread will get moved, I bet.

I use AMSOIL 20W-50 air-cooled motorcycle (V-Twin) oil, and change it according to the book every 5,000 miles.  I use it in my Triumph, too, which gets changed every 2,000 miles since I added an oil filter.

This was true at one time, however the Castrol 20W50 is not SG rated.  I've gone over to the BMW 20W50 SG rated oil in the R90/6, Mobil 1 20W50 in everything else.  But truthfully, I think the Castrol would probably be just fine.  I've used it in my Ford F150 with 316k and no issues.  Frequent changes is really the key IMHO.

Just tossing this out to muddy up the waters...

Snowbum is now touting the virtues of Valvoline Motorcycle 20W50.  [smiley=undecided.gif]
