keep syncing carbs
« on: July 16, 2010, 01:23:46 AM »
every second or third ride one carb keeps going out of sync , i know now that the problem is the carb is pulling the slack out of the cable as it is vibrating and i found the connecting rubber trying to come off at the head side , is there a better way of connecting the carb to the head as mine has separate filters, the carbs have more chance of moving up and down and taking 2mm out of the cable and then out of balance
anyway of using something better than rubber connection

For a start buy yourself a new set of rubbers to mount the carbs to the heads on.  Old rubbers get hard and less plyable.  and the carbs will keep falling off.  Do the new ones up tight and consider using a silicon sealer help stick them on.

I had a similar issue with my Cafe Racer with seperate filters.

After that consider rebuilding your carbs.

Cheers

Motobins has replacement rubber hose bits for the carb-to-head connection. Fresh rubber will grip much better than the old, hard stuff.

You might want to bear in mind that the rubber connection is providing a thermal break between the head and carb which might be lost if you use something more rigid.

As well as a reduction in vibration transmitted to the carbs... rattling those needles and wearing out them jets, y'all.

The rubber parts work great for a long while, but they do need to be replaced every couple of decades or so!

I am doing this same job on my R65ls today ;).
The old rubbers are shot, old, brittle and hard = no good.
So I went to an industrial hose place and they set me up with some 44mm fuel proof hose (about a metre long) for $17 AU  ;D.
That will do me and any other r65 I get up here with the same problem for years.
I shall start a new thread and put some photos on so you can see how it turned out.
