exhaust pipe replacement

I'm planning on replacing my exhaust pipes, and crossover pipe, on my '79 r65 -any tips on what to get and where the best deal is? Also any words of wisdom on the replacement would be great.

If the header pipes have not been off yet, the finned exhaust nuts can be a problem .

You need a special tool to fit into the fins on the nut if you haven't done this before, if you try a punch and hammer, you will break the fins off .

If the nut moves, then stops, stop all efforts to remove the nut, cut the nut off and replace it, or you will be removing the head to have the threads on the exhaust port repaired .

In the USA, MAC Exhaust used to have 2-1 systems for the R65, I'm not sure if they still sell them now or not.  I think that Keihan over in Great Britain also makes stainless steel systems like Staintune.  I believe that EMGO still sells mufflers for airheads but I don't know if they sell headers or crossover pipes.

I'm very impressed with my SS Keihans.  Their appearance in shape is identical to OEM.  The silencing is perfect for me, quiet yet throaty. The assembly and fitment with the Keihans was excellent! No banging, twisting, grinding, or forcing of any kind.  I also think it's important to mention the hardware supplied with the system was top-notch and very high quality. They're a bit pricey but not so far above anything else of any quality. I think the mufflers ran me just under ±$600 delivered from the Beemershop. As you all may remember I attempted to have the headers re-chromed (against my better judgement) which failed miserably after the the first start-up. There's options available through different suppliers and you'll get a lot of different opinions. This was one of my most difficult decisions but in the end; the few extra dollars I invested were worth it in my case. I suggest you ask a lot of questions, research and try to get some personal opinions.
