R65LS - Coming Along!

Greetings,
finally got back to my R65 LS project bike with a friend helping yesterday. After about 4 hours, we got a lot covered - rebuilt carbs mounted, new throttle, choke cables, exhaust mounted, headlight bucket and figured out mount for brake line tee goes on headlight bucket not frame!  For next session, my buddy says bring all fluids and we'll start her up - this is getting pretty serious.  I shot a video with my Flip camera and put it on  You Tube - you can click link to see where we're at.

I do have two questions - okay - three - looks like AGM is THE place to get a new battery - so not a question.
I have a new seat lock - can someone tell me how to install this thing? There aren't any images in my manual - same for the fork lock - I have a new fork lock and seat lock that are keyed alike.  Anyway, getting excited here in MN!

Looking good.
The fork lock slides straight out of the hole if you remove the cover plate then insert the key twist it and out it pops.I keep mine in my jacket pocket as ive not got round to refitting the cover plate.
I had to drill out the seat lock and havent replaced it but the push button release for the seat works fine.

Will the fork lock still come out w/out a key?  I have a key for the new one but not the old one.  Also, is there a way to remove the cover w/out destroying it so it can be re-attached?

I had no key for mine i had to drill it out not too difficult as i recall i used a 9mm drill after a 4mm pilot hole down the middle.I also drilled the rivet off the cover plate with the 4mm.

Ken,

The challenging part is removing and replacing the rear plate (#4) in the lower diagram. On my '81, I had to remove the rear fender for access which means the rear wheel comes off, too.

After that, the little ring and fillister head screw are easy.

Hi Monte,

Not my mod but thanks - bike came like this - even has red side covers. I can almost swear everything is OEM - is that possible?  I'm not talking about the new Spiegler brake lines nor the floating rotors but the fenders, seat tank and side covers.

I did drop her off at Judson Cycle last Thursday- an independent BMW and Moto Guzzi shop in Southern MN.  Looks like a cool place.  Bike is almost complete (I hope) albeit some minor electrical issues and the starter not engaging.  I just don't have the time and energy to finish it but very close.  I hope to see her running by the end of July.

Will keep ya'all posted.
