Motobins is FAST
« on: June 28, 2010, 12:01:44 PM »
Ordered my parts last Sunday and today when I arrived at work the parts are here in my mailbox!  It took only 5 working days to get my stuff - ground cable for back of tranny to battery, atmospheric bolt (has a hole in it), new throttle grip, top & cam, fork filler covers and a nifty Trelock cable lock to fit in the frame tube.

Will put these items on and dropping bike off on Thursday to BMW mechanic to have him check my work and get this beast awake and running!

I think I may have fried my headlight relay when I was hooking the small positive cable that I thought was negative to the wrong post on the battery.  We've used a Volt meter to check everything and it seems the only reason the low beam doesn't work is due to the relay.  Theere is continuity from all points to the wire where the relay plugs in.

We're getting there - mostly due to the great help from this forum.  Thanks.

I've only placed one order with Motobins, that was last September, seven days from placing the order, it arrived here in Phoenix .

That's quicker than it takes the local BMW dealer to get parts for the R65 .

It's 8500 km, or 5300 miles traveling distance for the shipment to here in Phoenix .

Even taking into account the shipping cost, and the foreign currency exchange fee that my credit card issuer charges, prices can't be matched !!!!

Ken, Bob, what delivery service did they use?  I'm hoping that they use the mail service as I asked them for the items I just ordered.  Couriers charge an arm and a leg up here to clear imported goods through customs.

Everything I've ever received from Motobins has come via Royal Air Mail. Very reasonable cost, too.

I've found their prices to be @ 25% less than the local BMW dealer and right now the exchange rate is pretty good for the US Dollar.

Btw, I love their drop down currency converter - ever notice how many currencies there are in the world?

I've been using Motobins for a couple of years now: They are fast and very easy to deal with and the Danish suppliers cannot match the prices.

Last year they sent me a stainless muffler which had a small dent. It was replaced with no fuss at all.

greetings from a warm and sunny north

Hey Guys - don't make too much noise about Motobins prices being 25% less than your US dealers or they might read it on the forum and put them up.  ;D

Here in the UK we have 3 major internet suppliers all of which have much the same overall prices: - Motobins, Motorworks and James Sherlock. Motorworks and James Sherlock don't export to US/Canada though. We do have BMW dealers but they are chrome and glass palaces. I may be wrong but I doubt they have the slightest interest in airheads. Has anyone in the UK bought airhead spares from a BMW dealer ?

I just received my shipping cost from them....23 pounds (for 69 pounds worth of engine gasket set and a timing chain kit).  That's seems like a lot.  I'll have to see how the bottom line comes out compared to a dealer when I get down there.

Mike, that does sound a bit on the high side for shipping costs .

I just checked my receipt from Motobins, I paid 12 GBP shipping costs for my order, it was about the same as yours, 1 timing chain kit, 2 Brembo caliper rebuild kits and a master cylinder rebuild kit .

I wonder if you are subject to the VAT that's charged in the European Union .

Bob, the charge is 23 pounds (plus vat on the 23 pounds).  There is no VAT on the parts themselves.  Thanks for the feedback.  I'll check with them that this is correct.

We're not subject to the VAT here in the US, at least when I placed my order last September we weren't .

Bob, we're not subject to the VAT here in Canada also but I believe it will apply to a service provided in the UK such as postal service.  Are you sure you didn't pay VAT for your mailing charges?

I just checked with sales at Motobins and they assure me that the mailing charge is correct.
