Shifter Needle Bearing
« on: June 21, 2010, 03:47:50 PM »
The shifter pedal bushing in my '83 is worn and allows quite some in/out play between the pedal and the attachment point.  The parts microfiche has the '85-'87 models with a bushing (#23412302382) and the '78-'85 with a needle sleeve/bearing (#23131238422).  Are these parts interchangeable?.  I guess both can be inserted into the pedal, but the pivot screw must be matched to the type of bearing used.

The part numbers are different for the different series of bike, the 78-84 being the twin shock,  the 85 and on are mono shock bikes .

Unless I knew for certain they would work, I'd stay with whatever the parts manual states for your year bike .

I'll give up my R65, when they pry my cold dead hands from the handlebars !!!!!

I don't think the '78-'80 bikes even had this bearing.  Mine did not.  Just a grease nipple for lubricating it.  And we have already determined that this grease nipple can be a bit of a rarity.
