Crash Bars & LED Riding lights

I was recently admiring my boxer while sitting in the garage, listening to blues music and sinking a couple of cold ones when INSPIRATION descended upon me like a religious experience ( and I had only had 2 cold ones!) I immediately turned off the music, drained the last can and picked up my toolbox. After removing the crash bars ( engine protectors etc.) I rushed down to a local stainless steel workshop and said (what all people at one time have said on this island of the dogs):
"Can you copy these"

To which a grubby Javanese troll replied:
"Of course we can but not today, come back tomorrow and it will cost you 900,000 rupiahs(US$85) and you also want mountings for riding lights?(or javanese words to that effect)"

"YESSSS!"

The next day, I turned up with the requisite amount of money and there they were . Perfect!

In the intervening period, I had purchased 2 SS outdoor light fittings for 12 v halogen lights and replaced the halogens with 12v 3 w LED's

It took me about an hour put it all together and this is the cost
The cost was:
Crash bars - $ 85
Lights, LED's cable etc: $ 60

How did this turn out - did you get a set of these on order, Lou?
I've been contemplating this myself - for what some people want for uses parts that will require repainting, it might be better to look into a set of these if they seem to be well made up and the shipping isn't too costly.

Afraid Balibeemers gone AWOL he sorted out a price and delivery then disappeared ive pm,d and emailed him a couple of times the price with delivery was working out at about $150 complete inc del, which i thought was ok........no panic i will wait for him to resurface unless something good comes up on eBay the s/h crash bars have be going for about $80 for decent ones.

Btw ive just noticed the bottom spindle clamp on the forks has 2 allen screws mine has one??

I think that those forks are from a later model (post 85?) airhead - perhaps the monolever frame - I can't recall for sure but seem to think that my 88 R100RT had dual pinch bolts on the fork legs

I must have missed something here...why did Balibeemer need to have his black? crashbars replaced with the stainless ones?? They look the same just as he had asked. So is it hard to find SS light housings with 12V halogen bulbs and can the bulbs be easily replaced with 12v LED's??? This sure is cheaper than either the Denalis or the Clearwater LED lights! The power draw of the LED's is perfect for our low output alternators!! Even for lots of bikes with the 400 watt output, these LEDs are a great idea! I am very tempted to get the Denalis. The dimmable Clearwaters sound good too. Can all lights be made dimmable...nhmaf, I bet you know how!!!!

Not all lights can be made adjustable, but most can - though sometimes it is more complicated.   HID lights have a particular frequency of operation which needs to be considered as part of any dimming circuit if they have adjustable output.  But, that is usually part of the switch controls sold with those lights.
