Looking for a new color....
« on: December 04, 2006, 11:38:31 AM »
So my bike is Bronco brown.   It's pretty chipped up around the fuel filler and on the front fender.  The seat tailpiece is scratched up from the non-moving Krauser rack and I have newer one coming from eBay.

Since it's a lot eaiser to repaint a bike in a new color compared to a car, I will probably change the color.  What color bike are you riding?  Got a photo?  What color would you do it over in?   I may not go with an official BMW color, but am looking from some ideas that go with the age and character of the bike.

Suggest something!   :)

Easy...henna red with white wheels aka Ducati Monster as well. Stunning.

Close second is a Harley bright sunshine blue with white wheels.

White wheels really set off bold colors.

1983 R65LS - LRB still my favourite!? 1988 Honda NX250, "Toodles Too" and a Suzuki DR650, "Calypso." All stored in the "Brrrmmm Closet".

Cool, never thought of doing anything with the wheels.  Mine is a regular R65... not sure how that would look.
I have been considering old Porsche colors from the late 70's as well, since they will go well on German machinery.  I'll find some links and post them.  I'm thinking a non-metallic color to make painting easier.

Porsche red is very nice and bright.....must be close to henna red. Henna red doesn't seem to fade like some reds as it has an orange tint. An artist told me this.  Can't find a pic of the blue R65 with white wheels as the site called suicidemission.com seems to be gone! :'(  It was a really pure, bright blue.

Rob V. and I used to lust after some of those bikes on that site. I wonder where it got to???? :-?

Classic black is always a good choice with white pinstripes.

My vote is for the classic black with white/red pinstripping.
(I'm not partial at all...  ;) )
The black is really a beautiful color especially with the offsetting pinstrips.  Although I also like yellow.  I've never seen an R65 in yellow, but think that would be interesting!  It looks great on my Laverda...  (with Black wheels)

I'm not a real big fan of bright yellows but for some reason that color just looks good on that bike.

It may be the smart use of black under the passenger grab handles that also matches the black nacelle over the instruments. Only silver on the engine is the third shade. It looks so "together" Here the black wheels are perfect. I am sure Aïda will love that yellow LS!!

I've always been rather fond of old fashioned "Beemer Blue" myself.

Of course, Justin calls it "Dupont # 379 Super Neon Electric Bleu" or some such thing.....

And considering what the seller was asking for the yellow LS, it BETTER look good!

There are really only two choices:

flat black (now THAT would be stealth, John in SC...)

or of course, the BEST color that BMW ever put on an R65, Bronco Brown!  ;D

I like that yellow MsBuck posted...

Here's some of the colors I was thinking of:
1980 Porsche Cashmere (sort of a tan):

Talbot Yellow:

Peru Red (darker than the usual Porsche guards red, I guess sort of like Henna Red?):

Kiln Red (but it might be a metallic):

I have also considered white or silver.
Unfortunately, I can't find many photos of R65s in other colors than what's already posted.  How come there's so many Bronco survivors?    :)
