Smoke!

I have a good bit of smoke on start up. seems like it's coming from the left cylinder as much as the exhaust. Didn't happen when I first got it, then it started doing it every now and then. now it's pretty much every time I start it if it's been sitting for more then a few hours. impending doom?

If the bike has been parked on the side stand then "they all do that" as oil runs down the bore by force of gravity.

If you remove the plugs and peer inside with a slim light source and compare one side with the other you will often be able to see oil in the cylinders and or a difference in the appearance of the piston crown.

This can also be caused by the engine breather favouring one side or the other according to how the breather outlets are positioned in the air tubes.

Thanks Barry! now that you mention it, I did note that it didn't happen when it spent time on the center stand. Good news!

If the smoke clears up within a minute of startup after leaning on the sidestand, I'd say this is the normal oil migration under gravity thing.

it does! More good news! I'd been holding back asking this question because I was afraid of the answer. One less thing to worry about. You guys are great.

These bikes like being on their centerstand, primarily.

I only use the sidestand when parking on a surface that isn't flat, or something like dirt.  Never in my garage.

When I'm in a sentimental mood and long for my old two-stroke MZ Trophy I place the WH8La2 on the sidestand and enjoy the smell of burning oil.
