Piston Rings / 81 R65 Nikasil Cylinders
« on: April 10, 2010, 03:53:44 PM »
I'm seeking some advice and anecdotal experience with ordering piston rings for Nikasil cylinders.  I have a 1981 R65 (production 9/80) with Nikasil cylinders. From my research the rings are not available individually, only as a set for each piston as OEM part# 11 25 1 337 401. I'm trying to locate a complete set (Lt & Rt) as soon as possible and am wondering if any of you have experience with a local US supplier outside of ordering through a certified BMW dealer. I've checked with both of my local dealers and they each tell me the kits are available in US warehouse with a delivery time of 5 working days.

Any information and personal experience along with a specification sheet for these specific piston rings is  greatly appreciated.

It's a long story...

Did you try Ted Porter's Beemershop?  That seems like something he would have in stock.  I got mine from Steve Prokop but he probably had to order them too.  He's more of a mechanic than a parts dealer.

Expect to pay about a hundred bucks....

Thanks Ed,

Ted's part of the long story but it seems as though it's been resolved (yesterday) and the subject post is moot.

Thanks for the reply.
