im having a nightmare of day , went for a test ride today after months of work i lost the gears , i rode back in 3rd gear , gearbox ok but i cant get a gear when shifting , got gearbox out and i cant get the drive shaft plate away from gearbox , i got the big nut off but i stuck ,if i can get this of will it let me get the cover off. any ideas on how to get it off.

also i looking for a spare gearbox for a 79 r65 if someone has one for sale , must be complete and running , anywhere around north of england

By chance, did you replace the gear shift shaft oil seal on the side of the transmission ?

no i didnt ,  i think its  a spring come a drift , i cant get the drive plate off   from gearbox to have a look inside

From what I've seen in other posts, you need a puller, and apply heat to get the drive flange off of the transmission output shaft, I believe it's a tapered fit .

Yes, I can vouch for a puller being needed.  I made this one when I rebuilt the tranny in the Junkyard Dawg...

Ah, so it is not the nut that gives off the loud BANG! when you break it loose, it is the flange coming off of the taper.

Be ready for that, Manx, it is a doosey (so I have been told).
