Shift lever O-ring Size
« on: March 05, 2010, 06:39:52 PM »
I'm replacing a pesky, leaking shift lever shaft O-ring on the 1981 R65. Old seal out and new seal on hand.

My question concerns an O-ring I found mounted on the shifter shaft and located on the interior -trans side- face of the shift shaft lever. This O-ring is outside of the oil seal. I do not see this O-ring on the parts fiche. There is a machined recess on the shift shaft for the O-ring so my assumption is that it belongs there and is not a PO's idea of leak control.

Shift shaft is #4 in the diagram. The O-ring would be hidden from view in this drawing. Failing locating the exact size, I'll just mix n' match with my metric ring supply... hopefully.

Gracias for any input.     Monte

There's no o-ring on the shifter shaft, just the oil seal that goes into the transmission case .
