Replacement Side Stand 81 R65

I'm trying to locate a replacement sidestand for my 81 R65. The hinged connection point of the sidestand at the frame eyelet is rounded out and the bike wants to rest at an unsafe excessive sideways angle. First of all; can they be rebuilt by building up of material? Sounds like an accident waiting to happen to me...and costly. I would rather spend the money on a new replacement to be sure, and safe.

I notice on REAL OEM fiche, the stand that resembles mine (#1) shows no reference of part number or is discontinued. The #8 stand is different than my existing stand.

Doing a search on the Motobins Site, I find one that seems to resemble mine (part# 91603) but only states to 1980. I'm thinking this might be a case of my bike being a transitional model era where I've run into fitment problems before.  The bike is considered a 1981 model although production date is 10/80. Can someone confirm that the Motobin #91603 is the correct sidestand? Sure looks like it.

Any experience and direction here is appreciated.

I would trust a qualified welder to build up worn mild steel and reshape back to original. The welding rod should be as strong as the original material.  My machine shop (Norman Racing in Calif) does this kind of thing all the time.

Thanks a bunch - nice information to have regarding options. I'm trying to maintain a 100% stock version in the restoration process. I know, it's an incurable illness I have!

I welded mine up with a cheap nasty gasless mig.
Over built the material and then ground it back, came up looking good and works great.

Hardest part was getting to the sidestand, I stuffed my exhaust nut in the process.

When removing the left exhaust pipe to gain acccess, if the flange nut doesn't free up within a 1/4 turn STOP what you are doing. It will need to hacksawed off or it could cost $$$. anti-seize when refitting the flange nut.  Wish I knew this BEFORE I did it.

The 91603 looks to be the same as the stand I pulled off my '81.

My 80 has a Brown on it but my parts bike which is a 79/80 has the stocker still attached, I'll check it out in the morning and see if it's like your "81"

+1 on the Brown.  Much better position of the side stand in the center of the bike.  Interferes with the center stand a bit but nothing too egregious.  8-)

Yes, Brown's are definitely the bomb but they are not OEM. Hence sacrilege on Mike's Bike.
