still no tick over and leaking exhaust. please rea
« on: February 20, 2010, 08:39:47 AM »
well i have done i think everything right but no tick over still , new jets and carb kit and still no tick over , i get close but not the 1000 rpm i want.

is this carb set up but done keep moving the bike , i mean riding it then doing a bit more as ive been sat in a workshop all the time blowing air over the bike

just noticed that exhaust has a small hole in cross section between exhausts, would this cause problem, and also can you run the bike without that cross section of the exhaust.

please help

I doubt if a very small hole in the balance pipe would have any significant effect at idle. If you want to eliminate any effect it might have it's going to be a lot easier to patch this with a jubilee clip for now rather than remove the pipe.

Can you expand on this a bit.  To try and diagnose your problem we will need to know where your settings for the throttle stop screw and mixture screw ended up. Do you mean the idle speed will not go as low as 1000 RPM or not as high ?

You should replace those rubber pieces connecting the carbs to the heads.  A leak there will make it impossible to tune.

You want the crossover pipe (I assume this is a '78-'80, with only one cross?).  Just patch the hole for the time being as Barry suggested,  Some flex steel and two hose clamps should do it.
The crossover can be changed out cheaply using a section of Electrolux vacuum cleaner extension tube.  Find a dealer/repair man near you - they usually have old ones they let go for cheap.

Are you certain you did not get the "choke" discs mixed up from one carb to the other?  Or that they are put into their respective carb body with the proper orientation?

What do you mean - "open exhaust"?

With a non-OEM intake, and exhaust, you may have to experiment with different jet sizes, needle positions to find a 'happy' combination for your bike .

I'm assuming the blue '79-80 R65 in the pictures is your bike .
