R65 head overhaul sources

I have just recently scored a decent pair of R65 cylinder heads with valves and springs. I will put them away for awhile but would like to eventually have them overhauled to the latest specification. With a brace of R65s in the garage, you just never know when you're going to need something.

I believe this squirreling away of parts is vaguely related to the microeconomics purchasing theory of economy of scale. At least that's my explanation to my wife as to my addiction.

Who has rehabed R65 heads and whom are the recommended resources?  Gracias,

Ted Porter's Beemershop is one recommended source.
Tom Cutter (Rubber Chicken racing garage) is another possibility - though I know that you have a fear of chickens....  ;-)

I haven't sent me heads out to any of these guys (yet).

I think that Sue had her LRB's done by a reputable shop somewhere in Michigan, but I Cannot recall the name.

Monte, just remember where you put them away once you do get them overhauled.  I've seen your garage and with that Cadillac in there your storage space is limited.  You could always keep them in your shoe closet!   [smiley=steinigung.gif]

My heads and cylinders are currently being worked on by Ted. When i get them back I can report back to you. Ted is highly recommended by the airheads.

I dropped my '81 R100 heads off at Boxers by Bruce, in Pantego, and had them back in less than a week.  Black Diamond valves, new exhaust seats, valve springs, guides, etc.

Boxerworks did mine.  Blackdiamond valves and guides but he just resurfaced the seats.  

Time will tell.  SO far so good.

What are the experiences here with the Black Diamond valves?  

In the /2 world, they have a poor reputation of head separating from stem when used hard (as hard as a /2 can use its valves, that is).  A few years ago there was a guy who attempted to ride an R69S in the Iron Butt, but had this problem on the second day.  

I realize that the situation inside a roller bearing crank, low volume oil pump motor could be very different than inside a "modern" plain bearing, high pressure motor.

No worries, Lou. Shiner is a Texas-brewed beer that lays claim to be the oldest indy brewery in the State. Shiner is the town's name. Spoetzl Brewery is our "church"  Bengt Mike claims it's his perfect food group. Get yourself back here and we'll train you up proper.

Oh, yeah... the cylinder heads arrived this week. Appear to be in excellent condition plus the exhaust threads are virgin. That's a real plus. I plan to soda blast the exteriors and then run 'em down to Boxers by Bruce for a head job. See what he thinks I'll need to do.

Checked BMW's prices for replacement heads. Gag me! About $850.00USD each, bare. Also noted only right-side heads were "available". I bought the pair, with valves and springs, etc, for $58.00 plus $20.00 shipping. Such a deal!
