Sump Spacer

Hi,

Is anyone running the sump spacer that gives an extra 1.3L?

It looks like a "cleaner" alternative to an oil cooler  :-/

Installing that spacer, may render the center-stand unusable , I don't think the stand will clear the oil pan afterwards .

I would check first, before you commit to purchasing it .

You are also doubling the cost of gaskets, and potential for leaks, as well as disturbing the oil pickup to install a spacer there.

Do you extend the oil pickup as well???
you may end up with cavitation,

In the kits that I've seen, a spacer of equal thickness is added to the oil pick-up tube as well .

There is another variant of the spacer, that has tubes cast into the spacer that run front to back, to allow cooling air through the spacer, to help cool the oil .

I was considering this variation before adding the OEM BMW oil cooler kit, then found out, that the center stand wouldn't clear the oil sump afterwards, at least, with the Luftmeister kit .

I added this to my R90 a long tiime ago. You will need to cut out the cross member on the center stand and drop it down to clear the spacer. The only problem that I have had was after many years of this being installed oil started seeping around the tubes. I have JB Weld around the outside of the tube inside the spacer.

I have one of these with the tubes which was installed on the R65RS when we got it.  A Reynolds stand clears it nicely!  I think I still have the spacer out in the shop if someone would like to make me an offer I couldn't refuse! ;-)
