Brake Rotor

I'm going to bite the bullet and buy a new rotor. Can anyone give suggestions on a vendor and part number. I have to be able to stop better and I can't stop the pulsing.

I got  EBC semi-floating steel discs, from Bike Bandit, about two years ago, for my '81 R65, they were on sale for $157 each, don't have the part numbers handy, I'm at work today .

They can develop rust if you live in a more moisture prone area, I live in a desert, so, it's not an issue with me .

I'm planning on removing the OEM rotors from the '84 LS tomorrow, and send them in to Spiegler, for a stainless steel, semi-floating upgrade on the existing hub, or carrier .

Cost is $240 each, and the holes in the rotors overlap, so you don't get the wavy heavily grooved look after 5 or 10,000 miles .

My EBC's wore out after 45,000 miles.  The rotors were fine but the carriers were galled.  I ended up putting BMW rotors on.  When they go I will try the Speigler option on 'em.  I really liked floating rotors.

I have 2 floating rotors fitted to my LS (see photo gallery) they are from an Italian company called 'Braking' and I purchased them from Munich Motorcycles in Perth Western Australia. They were $250 AUD each.
They come as a kit that you can fit to your existing disk carrier yourself, I ground the heads off the existing rivets (on the disk side) and punched them out. The new disks come with SS bolts, floating washers and spacers and nylock nuts.
It all seems to work well and as Bob said the holes in the disks overlap so hopefully no grooves.

I noticed Munich also stock the standard fixed rotor c/w carrier for AUD299.



I need two new discs for my LS.  :-/  I'll go with the floating kit too if I cannot find an alternative.

Thanks MM for posting the close-up for Bill. I don't know how I missed his request back in September.

The disk kit was a very easy DIY job if you have an angle grinder to knock the ends of the rivets off. You grind them from the disk side so there is no damage to the disk holder that you are re-using.

If you look at the Munich Motorcycles photos of the OEM rotor you can see that the holes through the disk are smaller than on the floating rotor. My original disks were badly worn with ridges within a few years from new so if anyone buys OEM I would recommend that they drill all the holes out larger so that they just overlap which should stop the uneven wear.

The photo also shows the caliper connection of the 'HEL Performance' braided SS brake lines that come in a kit that doesn't need the existing fixed steel lines and brackets. It's very simple and neat and is a specific 3 line kit for the R65LS.

These are a competitive alternative to the Braking rotors due to the exchange rate at the moment... :-/

I just installed these on an '83. Looks like they will work fine but since it is minus 5 degrees out I will have to get back to you on that.
