Oil Pressure
« on: December 07, 2009, 03:15:31 PM »
G'day All, how can I tell whether the oil pressure is OK or not? Are there any tell tale signs that I could look for?
Thanks and REgards

Other than the low oil pressure indication inside the tachometer, there is no way to know for sure .

One member here added a mechanical, not an electrical oil pressure indicator, but it's something you're going to have to 'engineer' yourself, there are no kits available .

The few set-ups I've seen, have a 'manifold' threaded into the oil pressure switch hole, then either a direct reading mechanical indicator, threaded into it, or a pressure sending sensor added, plus the associated wiring and indicators .

Thanks Bob! If the oil presure is low or the oil pump not operating efficiently are there any tell tale signs like noisy engine? Is oil pressure an important issue in these motors?
Thanks and regards

I think by the time you would notice a noise problem with the engine, it would be too late to save it from major damage .

This doesn't seen to be too big of an issue with these bikes , only re-occuring problem that I have heard about, is when the oil filter shim and o-ring get cut, or assembled incorrectly .

HI Tony,

What sounds is your engine making that would make you suspect you have a bad oiling system?  And when is it making them?

BTW read this article.  It is long.  Pay particular attention to the depth of you oil filter canister and to find out how many metal washers you need to install first before putting in your big white $2000 dollar O-ring.

Btw - With the fall of the dollar shouldn't this now be called the $3000 dollar o-ring?   :o

Thanks fellows, ever since I changed the oil I've had a suspicion something is not right. I'll check these suggestions and go over the oil change routine again. Once again, thanks for your help
