Scraping in corner

Hi,
I'm enjoying the heck out of my r65ls after a couple or three thousand miles. However, I've found that it's easy to scrape metal when leaned over to the left. It seems the center stand is touching down, limiting my lean.

Is that normal -- do they all do that? I'm wondering if my center stand is out of normal position somehow, though I can't see how it is by eyeballing it. Anyone ?

It's not too uncommon, for the springs and other attach hardware to get worn and sloppy, along with the center stand itself .

When ever you get around to it, take it apart and have a good look at it the individual parts .

Yes, if you don't check those fasteners every once in a while, you will get a big surprise one day when you go to put it up on the centerstand and the bike falls over!

I caught mine!  It only happened once.

In 20 odd years of some pretty scratchy sports riding I only recall touching a centrestand down a few time, probably only when 2 up and with a dip in a corner.

I had an after market "ride-off" stand that would scrape all the time. I replaced it with the stock stand and all is OK now. The tang to lower the stand is tucked up close to the exhaust.

Since you say you drag when leaned to the left check the tang - some people stand on it when putting the bike on the center stand and it will bend.  One way to check is to touch up all the scrapes on the stand with black paint and see where it wears off the next time.

Buy some hockey puck knee pads and you'll be rockin'.

Sounds as if the centerstand springs may no longer be providing the correct tension on your scooter. I like lean angles but nada scrapes on either of my R65s.

 Looks like I need to put this thing on a lift and take a good hard look at the center stand and spring. Thanks for all the good info.

Well that turned out to be an easy fix. Once I got under the bike it was clear what was happening -- a bolt on the exhaust bracket was positioned so it ws hitting the stand and preventing it from retracting all the way. Repositioned a bit and no scraping now. Springs still look pretty strong. Thanks for the advice.

Glad it was an easy one.

You should still put a allen key in those hinge bolts, and see if you can tighten their nuts.
