R65 - which spare parts to buy?
« on: October 18, 2009, 01:53:52 PM »
My R65 is a Europe model produced in november 1980.
It has twin ATE brake discs og speedometer i miles so I guess it is imported from UK to Norway.
My question; when I am ordering parts could some parts be for 1978 to 1980 and some parts for 1981 to 1985 on the same bike?
I am locking at Thottle cam gears from www.motobins.co.uk, mine look like the 1978-80.

A good parts site is  RealOEM, you put the last 7 characters of the bikes serial number in the search box, and it will usually only show the parts diagram for your particular bike .

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do

If your bike is an '81 model year R65, manufactured 09/80, or after, you should have a single throttle cable at the handle bar, the '79-80, had a dual throttle cable set-up .

'81 R65
'82 R65 LS
'84 R65 LS
'87 Moto Guzzi V65 Lario
'02 R1150R
Riding all year long since 1993 .
I'll give up my R65, when they pry my cold dead hands from the handlebars !!!!!

+1or if you are able to ring Motorworks 44.1484664051 give them the frame number they will keep it on file and make sure the parts you order are correct for that bike

Is your airbox the the aluminium clamshell type rather than the black box sat on top of the gearbox?

Is your front brake master cyclinder round as opposed to rectangular?

Is your choke mounted on the airbox and not on the handlebars?

Does your throttle have a twin pull (two cables) as opposed to the single pull?

If you have answered the above question positively then you have a pre 81.

Thanks everybody.
My R65 is a 81 produced in 11/1980.
I guess I have to study my R65 before I start asking stupid questions.
Motobins, Motorworks and Ebay has a lot of parts for R65.
