Got excited and jumped on these on Ebay. Seems like a good price or did I pay too much? Happy I found them anyway! :D

IMHO, you did OK. Dealers here are charging that much, more or less, for each bag!

The point is, you found them & you have them. Assuming they're OK upon arrival, they're yours to enjoy. So, do so.

As a general proposition, economic utility is in the eye of the owner. For a number of reasons, I paid a dealer more $$ for my bike than a lot of airhead owners would be willing to give. To me, the important factors were (1) the tradeoff between $$ spent now versus repair $$ spent soon afterward, plus (2) some measure of assurance that what I bought was roadworthy. At my age, instant gratification has its merits!  ;D

You did OK, I've seen just bags go for more so it's almost like getting the mounts for free!  ;D

Great! You know the instant buyers remorse when you but impulsively... :o

But I think I found a rare "deal" on ebay.

I'll post a pick when I get them mounted. Along with my new bright blue GT hand grips!

Thanks,

Josh

A set of krasners went on UK ebay for 175 pounds ($300ish) so looks like another bargain for you and that gift of a bike you bought.

I'm jealous.  You are lucky I didn't see them, or the seller would have made more money!  ;)

So I got the bags in excellent condition. Believe it or not my R65 key fits them! Locks and unlocks!
Now I do not know how they go on? I see only 2 points, the shock and down by rider footrest. Is that all it needs to mount the brackets? Anyone have a pic?

Thanks in advance!

Its not a great picture but this how the Krauser rack was mounted on my R65LS before I removed it. Top of shock, rear footrest and a brace across the rear at the license plate mount to tie it all together.
Keep your bike in good repair: motorcycle boots are not comfortable for walking.

You made out. LUCKY, LUCKY, LUCKY.  Rule of thumb on used BMW items and parts. NEVER PAY MORE THAN HALF PRICE OF NEW. These bags sell of $257+ each new.
Anyone out there have a good used set for the 1979 model, please let me know. Ride safe. OLDPAUL.

The BMW mounts generally had a cross piece that would bolt through the small round "loop" at the end of the rear subframe, just above/ahead of the tailight on the rear fender.

Yer gonna love 'em. I have a set for my LS and being able to carry stuff worry free is great. Now If I could only find a gas grill to fit in them!
Ya did OK and the price will be long forgotten when you begin to use them. Great item!

Mounted! Does this look correct?

I could pull them about an inch 1/2 closer in with the bolt behind the seat?

I'm not an expert but they do seem to be leaning out.  Let me go and look at the Krauser rack on my R65.

< stumbles out to carport and back again - no damage done >

My Krauser rack mounts to the inside of the shock-mount on the inside of the frame.  It looks like you have the BMW rack ( the four holes along the top edge of the rack are for a luggage rack(?) I think)

< your results may vary >

BTW - Nice clean blue bike - Lucky you - Dome top carbs!  Is the line above the LH cylinder for an oil pressure gauge?
