Rubber cover for trip odometer button
« on: August 09, 2009, 02:19:36 PM »
After many years of protecting the original dust cover on the trip odometer, mine fell off somewhere during the trip to TN. Moan! But not worth being too upset at my age!!

Didn't we decide that using a Brembo brake dust cap for the bleeder was a grand replacement idea. Part no. 34 21 1 236 794.

My velcroed old cap did well to stay on as long as it did. I must have bumped it somewhere with the tankbag or something. It's a lot easier to get those "0s" to line up on the trip odometer and I have found that it doesn't work unless I do have the 0s lined up straight! So to be able to remove the cap is impt.

Also, will any hooked wrench or "c wrench" work to adjust those Konis shocks with the knotches? Part number 71 11 1 237 858 $21.48 I saw this wrench on the A&S Cycles parts fiche with a listing of all the tools available.
1983 R65LS - LRB still my favourite!? 1988 Honda NX250, "Toodles Too" and a Suzuki DR650, "Calypso." All stored in the "Brrrmmm Closet".

Before I went digital on the '81, I had a good fitting vinyl "screw protector" or "vacuum cap" poked in the speedo hole, domed side up. Kept dust and what little rain we get at bay. Had to use a stick to reset but that was no biggie.   Monte

I remember that thread - a LONG time ago - Sue.  I think you're right about the brake dust cap.  Give it a try and tell what you think.

I have some covers that are designed for push-button switches that work nicely.

Justin, if you don't mind posting the mfgr and part # for those rubber covers in the FAQ and/or WIKI section somewhere that would be very nice/helpful for those who may need to replace them in the future.

I thought the bleeder cap solution was a new one at the time but later came across it as an old posting on ADVN. Dust caps available from all Ducati dealerships  ;D  ;D. They're fitted on all the Dukes. They'll probably give you one for free if you ask nicely. You can even pick em up off the floor, where they've fallen off one of the machines.
