Hello Everyone...My name is Singh from Vancouver, Canada. I just purchased an 1982 r65ls and very excited about it.  Always had this fascination about the airheads and finally i own one.  The bike  does needs some tlc and any help to fix these technical problems will be greatly appreciated.  
The bike has...leaking left Carb...i guess normal with these Bing carbs for a bike of that age.  
Need to change all fluids.
Front brakes callipers bind.
Engine vibrates when idling (not sure if that is normal with these bikes)
Rubber boot on the tachometer cable is worn out
Rubber boot for the gear shift lever.
Would like to know if there is any reasonable parts supplier locally or internet. What would u guys recommend?  Please forgive my English.

Welcome aboard Sigh. You will find plenty of help/advise here. Sounds like you will need to do a good cleaning of the carbs and see if rebuild kits needed. One place I have used for parts and rebuild kits is: http://www.capitalcycle.com/ I'm sure others will chime in with other places.

Welcome to our growing clan. Congrats on your new R65LS. We loves photos.

The bike has leaking left Carb. Likely needs a float bowl gasket.

Front brakes callipers bind.  Start with a good top to bottom cleaning and a fresh fluid refill. Pistons may need interior clean up.

Engine vibrates when idling.  Carb synchronization will likely fix that along with a complete tuneup.

Rubber boot on the tachometer cable is worn out. If you're looking at the cable boot on the engine's right side near the rear, that's the speedo cable. Tach is not cable driven.

Rubber boot for the gear shift lever.  No bigee.

Rubber boot's only purpose is to hide the cheap-a$$ wire shift link BMW foisted upon several years and is no longer available, at least somebody said it was NLA.  Carb leaking could also be a deteriorated float, float needle, or needle getting hung up by crud...

Could be a potential customer for one of those fancy Heim-jointed shifter links from Justin MegaIndustries' BMW Bling Ltd.

The 84 R65LS never had rubber boots on the gear linkage, looks better without them IMHO.

Hi Singh.

I live near you in Nanaimo.  For parts suppliers there are a number of choices:
Your local BMW dealer, Shails BMW in Vancouver (I would be careful about these guys...they recently sent me a used part that was not complete and charged me for a new one...I returned it), Moto-Bins in the UK, Capital Cycle, Re-Psycle BMW parts, Motorad Elektrik for electrical parts.  I'm sure there are others.  You can Google these names and get their web site addresses.

Bruce, the '81 had an adjustable ball-joint ended shift link and no boot opposed to the "coathanger wire" style of the earlier bikes.  That was proof enough to me that BMW was embarrassed by the wire link and then tried to "hide" it under a boot!

Monte, very few people (percentage wise) actually buy one of my selector rods as a preventive measure, they usually wait until the wire breaks, bends, or one of the retaining clips gives up the ghost...  But, thanks for the plug!

I'm one who didn't want to wait. When I wiggled the coathanger wire, the flex in it caused something in my head to go "Uh-oh, that isn't a matter of 'what if it breaks,' but 'when it breaks,'" so I bought Justin's. Justin, your design got high marks from the guy who's doing some other work on my bike at the moment. (Basically, he's going through it on a complete checkout that should have been done when I bought the bike, and installing a few farkles in the process.)

Thanks for a very warm welcome...I already feel home.  I am sorry for  a little late reply, got busy with stuff.  Thanks to all who provided some very valuable suggestions.  
I am thinking of ordering parts from Motobins, England.  Does anyone knows if Canadian customs will charge duty on it and if so what percentage (approximately).
I am attaching a pic of the bike and another one of my other bikes.  One is 1982 Suzuki gs400e (6800kms) that I restored about 2 years ago and 2nd one is 1972 Honda Trail70 than me and my 15 yrs old son work on just to show him around.

Email or call Motobins or Motorworks they will give you the heads up on this as there dealing internationaly all the time.

Hello all;
Here is update on ordering parts from Motobins to Canada.  I think it is going to be more expensive than i thought.  Canada customs charges taxes, duty, possible brokerage fee on any orders above $20 Canadian.

May be I should get it all shipped to USA, since I am going to be in St.Louis next week for a conference and thinking about getting the stuff mailed there.  Now I have no idea how US customs/taxes/duties will play out..any experience or suggestions r welcome.

I also tried Capital Cycle, their quote was significantly different (more ofcourse) from the prices listed on their website.

I haven't had any significant customs/duty fees on anything that I've brought into the US from Motobins before, so if you have a buddy in St Louis willing to be your receiving bin that should work to be less money for you - provided you get it back to Vancouver OK.

I've had generally good experiences with Capital cycle, though none of their prices on the web site have been udpated for a number of eyars, and they current prices are always more than those on the web site, but sometimes pretty comparable/competitive to other web-sources.
