Squeaky Front Brake?

 I get a squeak on my front rotor ...I can blip the front brake handle and it goes away?

Is there an adjustment for this?

Not unusual for the front brake to do that .

Permatex has an aerosol product called : Disc Brake Quiet .

It's a spray on blue plastic substance that acts like an adhesive, so the pads don't rattle in the caliper, they stay stuck to the piston, but it's not difficult to remove the pads when the time comes .

I think that someone mentioned that using a rattle can of automotive paint would produce the same result, I don't know for sure, as I have not tried it .

You may want to try taking the pads out, and clean everything up, check the pads for thickness as well .

A friend, who owns an automotive shop, says they use the cheapest rattle-can enamel they can find.  He said that really anything that can be applied to the back to dampen vibrations will work...

I applaud amp for trying to get everything right so he can enjoy his success.  It's more fun to ride if you know there a high degree of probability that you won't have to walk back!

Years ago when Barbi bought me a 1969 MGBGT "project" I remember people telling me about how neat they were if you liked working on them every weekend.  I took this to heart, put it up on jackstands, and went through everything.  After completing my "restification" I then used it as a daily driver for over a year with only one incident - the generator light burned out and caused the charging system to quit!  Sound familiar?

But, to zero in on amp's question - Does this "squeak" only happen with brakes applied or when you are just riding along?  I read your initial statement to mean "just riding along" and it would go away for a while if you taped the brake.  This is the pads dragging a bit and I don't think really hurts anything as long as it is just a slight touch.  My '81 R100 front brakes do that as well and I've never seen any abnormal wear or noticed any excessive heat buildup...

Get things cleaned up at the caliper, then check the small 'return' hole in the master cylinder, to see if it's clogged with dirt, possibly causing a slight drag on the brakes .

are you supposed to let the paint dry before replacing the pads,or put them straight in so the paint makes them stick(hopefully)to the calipers?

I don't think you want the paint runny wet, I would say the paint should be tacky, or just a bit on the soft, not cured/dried side .

been thinking of stopping mine from doing this as well. Only squeals with medium pressure. Apply the brakes a bit firmer and squeal goes away.

For some reason my front brakes developed a squeak when light pressure is applied, similar to John's.  This started a couple of weeks after I replaced the old pads with new EBC pads.  I have considered swapping left and right to see if it that has any effect.  No problem with the braking though, so I haven't gotten around to it.

Always check your rotors as well.  On standard discs radial cracks between the holes means they are toast.  They all do that and they really squeel.  Usually on higher mileage machines, though can be less if you are running justa single disc, i suppose.

My theory with the 'wavy gravy' rotor (I described my old rotors as like the egde of a lockwood door key) is that the holes drilled in the rotor are too small and don't overlap. The rotors form a ridge because they wear more where the holes are.
I noticed that the new floating rotors that I bought for the LS had holes that are slightly bigger and do overlap. Thr rotors are from Italy and are made by a company called 'Braking' I got them from Munich Motorcycles in Western Australia, same price as BMW originals.
