And no you don't need to remove the engine to remove the flywheel. Plenty of room to work in place.

I'm finally going to get around to this project this summer.  Anyone have photos of the transmission removed while the engine is in the bike?

I'm sure it's seeming more complicated than it is....

After the transmission is removed, and the crankshaft is blocked at the alternator rotor.

There are 6 allen head bolts that hold the pressure plates/clutch to the flywheel/clutch carrier.

After that, 5 bolts hold the flywheel/clutch carrier to the crankshaft .

 Then you have access to the rear main seal, and the oil pump cover .

I am inching ahead on my BIIIIG wiki article on replacing the clutch - which will also work for lubing the transmission input shaft splines or at least getting you up to the flywheel.   The instructions are in rough, 1st draft form and I haven't gotten to putting the transmission back in yet - and it covers 6 pages of text.   I have marks in the notes on where to insert photos, which I presently have about 3 dozen that go in there.

It is still 'work in progress' but I can email you a WinZIP of the who kit-n-kaboodle in its present form if you want it..  just PM me with your email address and be sure that your email can handle a 6 Meg attachment..

I'll do a bit more cleanup of the picture names, etc. to be sure that I've at least got all the ones I've referenced so far and email the lot to you this weekend.   At least the info should help some more people who are curious about getting their transmission out/splines lubed, etc. and it will allow people to see what I have so far and feedback constructive criticism.  

sometimes I look at it and think that it might be turning a bit too snowbum-like.  He is a great resource and friend of airheads, but I am hoping to be more clear and concise than that..
